online games maker is taking on some of the trappings of a dot-com dynamo, with rapid growth and a bunch of new creature comforts for its youthful staff.
KlickNation Inc., developer of two current games played on Facebook, recently doubled its local space, leasing the second floor of its headquarters site at 1015 20th St.
Total employment: 42 people, with several new positions now being posted to help with the launch of two new games over the next few months, says co-founder Mark Otero.
More than 100,000 people play the company's games daily, Otero says, and revenues are "in the millions."
There's lots of construction activity now at the company's 11,000-square-foot building in midtown.
The space is being divided into four quadrants – one for each of KlickNation's current or planned games – while numerous amenities are being added for staffers.
Among them: a laundry room, a second fully stocked kitchen, workout space, showers and even a "motel room," with bed and TV, for employees who need to stay overnight and would prefer not crashing on one of the office's numerous futons.
"We want to create the EA of Sacramento," Otero says, referring to games giant Electronic Arts, "and to do that we need a creative and comfortable work environment because people spend so many hours here."
His goal: Build KlickNation into the sort of a company that "if you're a game maker, no doubt you want to come work and play here."
